A large number of archaeological remains have come to light in the area west to lake Vouliagmeni up to the sanctuary of Hera, including Middle Helladic tombs, Mycenaean pottery, part of the ancient road system and waterworks, as well as fortification, house and temple ruins and ancient quarries.

The most important feature of the area is the Archaic sanctuary of Hera Akraia founded here in the 8th c. B.C and flourished in 6th c. B.C following Corinth’s prosperity, which tented its operation. The site extends to three levels. On the lowest by the ancient harbor (nowdays is a small beach) there is the Archaic Doric temple of Hera Akraia dating to the 6th c. BC.
